AMP Test

Out students will be taking the Alaska Measures of Progress test from the end of March to mid April. This is a very high stakes standardized test administered to third grade and above. Please make sure your students get lots of rest so they can show just how much they've learned. Testing schedules will be posted at the school.

School Showers

Due to our recent water shortage, the school will now be open to the public for showers on Wednesdays from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm. Come on up to the gym for a free hot shower. This service will continue until the village washeteria is back in working order. Many thanks to our principal, Pam Potter, who sought permission for this service from the district office.

Voting for Movies

Come to the gym this Thursday for a viewing of Big Hero 6 and the opportunity to vote for the next four movie night films. We will have voting ballots complete with write-ins, should you want to view a movie with your friends that we don't currently have. As usual, there will be popcorn for $1 with 25¢ refills. Also, a friendly reminder that all kids below the first grade must have an adult accompanying them. Hope to see you there!

Coast Guard Visit Diomede School

As part of the "Kids Don't Float" program, Sarah and Hamilton from the United States Coast Guard came to Diomede for a brief visit and presentation. Not only did we get a serenade of Shirley Temple's "Good Ship Lolly-Pop" for our morning assembly, but we also got to stick our hands in freezing cold water to demonstrate how one should put on a life jacket before going out on the water. Always remember: "The best life jacket is the one you have."

Ski Club

Ski Club is back, and it's badder than ever! Now that we have Brenda, James, and Andrew helping out, we can take out as many as 20 kids at a time (That's more kids than we even have)! I've also managed to rustle up some more skis buried away in the dark corners of the school and surrounding buildings. There is the issue of us not having any snow, but in the meantime, we'll be heading out for hikes in our snow gear to get our muscles ready for skiing. Please join us Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 3:45 pm to 4:30 pm. Make sure to bring plenty of warm gear.

100th Day and Pennies for Patients

February 1st marks both our 100th day of school this year, as well as our participation in the Pennies for Patients program. There will be a little 100th day celebration in the morning during school assembly from 8:50 A. M. to 9:10 A. M. Pennies for Patients is a fundraising activity to help people with leukemia. Please bring what spare change you can muster to help with a noble cause. Last year, our generous students and staff managed to donate a heart-warming amount. Together we can make a difference!
